This book addresses the social question, a concern of social welfare prominent in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, sparked by conditions that arose from the industrial revolution and the growth of capitalism. The author begins by noting that the industrial revolution and later developments caused social stratification and unrest among the working class, particularly due to harsh working conditions, economic insecurity, and political powerlessness. They argue that to address this social injustice and class conflict, a combination of economic, political, and social reforms is necessary. These reforms include the right to organize and bargain collectively, better working conditions, social insurance, and measures that encourage workers to own stock and share in profits, as well as welfare state initiatives to aid the most vulnerable. The author observes that both labor unions and employers' organizations can become too powerful and act in a manner harmful to the rest of society, but emphasizes that the most egregious effects have arisen from the unrestrained pursuit of private capital. Further information and thought are necessary, how ever, and the best way to use the Catechism for that purpose is for groups of pe0p1e to study it together. Such groups need not be large. A few willing people are enough. They can meet once a week, but they should be interested enough to spend a part of their remaining spare time reading and thinking about the labor problem. A leader, whether priest or layman, will be a great help.
Groups such as this in Catholic parishes, societies and Cities are greatly needed. They are a recognized part of Catholic work, and in other countries they are common. In some places in the United States they can already be found, but a vast number of them is required if Catholic social teachings are to animate as and if we are to restore all things m Christ.

Efectos del desistimiento

Excepciones al derecho de desistimiento
