Paperback. Jesus Snow, a Christ-like woman, leads twelve Chinese companions, each named after an animal of the Chinese zodiac, through the Zhou, Qin, Han, Tang, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties and into modern China. They pass through the sun itself in search of the Creator. Her former husband, Wang Jiquan, is the highest official in the Lingchi region. His policy of a blood-selling economy has turned the people of Lingchi into plasma slaves-economic animals whose bodies produce blood plasma. In the Communist Virus Empire, the people have been stripped of everything: men can only sell their blood; women can only sell sex. Violence and lies spread like floodwaters; the breeding of power, money, and sex poisons the entire Land of Lingchi.Lingchi Xue, a writer and journalist in the Lingchi region, is the embodiment of the region's conscience. He investigates the origins and course of the Communist Virus epidemic sweeping the region and writes this novel-a work capable of standing beside any great work of world literature. In his struggle against Wang Jiquan, his tongue is cut out and his wife is brutally killed. Yet amid the contamination of the collective unconscious, he persists in recording the history of evil in Lingchi and in scrutinizing and re-evaluating the values of its five-thousand-year history. For the people of the Land of Lingchi, crushed by profound catastrophe, the only hope that remains is to follow Jesus Snow-who has already died three times-and set out on the road in search of the Creator.
Violence and lies spread like floodwaters; the breeding of power, money, and sex poisons the entire Land of Lingchi.
Lingchi Xue, a writer and journalist in the Lingchi region, is the embodiment of the region's conscience.
