Full colour facsimile reprint of the original First World War, War Office war diary of the Corps of Hussars. 3rd (King's Own) Hussars, 4 Cavalry Brigade, 2nd Cavalry Division, covering August 1914 to March 1919 across 616 pages. It names 165 places across 227 dated entries.Alongside the daily entries the volume carries fifteen casualty and personnel returns, five reports, narratives and plans, seven Operation Orders, six appendices, one map and five diagrams. Among the papers are: Roll of officers by Squadrons.; Battle casualties incurred during period 20th. November-7th. December 1917 Officer; Casualties incurred during period 21.3.18 _ 1.4.18; Special order of the Day by This Majesty the King Appendix No. 1; Orders for Counter attack on Rifle wood on 1st April, by 2nd Cavalry Division. Appendix a; 82 Regiment D'Infanterie order Du Regiment n 1115; Extracts from order Received during Period September 28th 30 Appendix E; Special Regimental order . 3rd (K.O) Hussars. App. M.The diary opens at Shorncliffe on 4 August 1914. 1914 is spent at Lognes, Gapaard, Shorncliffe and Vauxcere. 1915 at Noordpeene, Bayenghem, Wallon Cappel, Strazeele and Ecques. 1916 at Bayenghem, Villeroy Sur Authie, Foret De Nieppe, Le Wast and Bivouac near Dernancourt. 1917 at Villeroy Sur Authie, Boubers Sur Canche, Villers Sur Authie, Remiencourt and Gaudiempre. 1918 is the most travelled year, 74 places against 40 in the next busiest, and is spent at Beussent, Fresnoy au Val, Bapaume, Beausaint and Devise. 1919 at Esneux, Grotten Herten, Palleur, Eynatten and Kirchberg. It closes at Grotten Herten on 31 March 1919. Bayenghem is where it spent longest, 145 days across four separate stays, including a single unbroken stay of 60 and it came back to Doulieu five separate times.Trench and battlefield features named in the diary include Chateau du Forestel, Bivouac Dessart Wood, Havrincourt Wood, Front Line trenches N.E. of Ypres, Bivouac in Marles Lez Mines Wood, La Trenches G.H.Q. Line, Gauche Wood and Rifle Wood.In 1914 it is also recorded at Southampton, Rouen, Rest Camp Bruyeres, Wattingies, Belgium, Braisieux Belgium, Curgies, Viesly and Verberie. In 1915 it is also recorded at Billets Just S. of Bailleul, Doulieu, Ypres, La Couronne near Vieux Berquin, Neuf Berquin, Fletre, Vlamertinghe, La Trenches G.H.Q. Line, In trenches, G.H.Q. Line, N.E. of Ypres and E. of Ypres. In 1916 it is also recorded at Escoeuilles, Bonningues-Lez-Ardres, Foret, Nationale De Tournehem, Audresselles, Wallon Cappel, Doulieu, Near Doulieu, Burbure and Avin. In 1917 it is also recorded at Saulchoy, Frohen-le-Petit, Wailly, Arras, Talmas, Fouilloy, Bayonvillers, Bivouac on near Cologne, Lempire and Camp 3/4 Mile S.W of Boucly. In 1918 it is also recorded at Remiencourt, Bayonvillers, St.Christ, Grand Ru, Liez, Frieres Faillouel, Bois de Carlepont, Guivry, Les Hezettes and Bailly.
