Descripción del artículo del vendedor

344 pp. An extensive business directory of the cities and towns of Maine during the Civil War. The listing is by proprietor within each town, noting type of business/occupation. (Portland had five dentists at the time, and 36 law offices.) In addition to "A Summary Historical and Statistical View of Maine," the directory contains more than 80 pages of advertisments, many illustrated and full page. The ad inside the front cover is for H. H. Hay, Druggist, while that on the inside of the back cover is for "Rich Rolling Prairie Lands," sponsored by the Illinois Central Railroad Company ("$12 per acre!!"). Williamson, A Bibliography of the State of Maine: 1943. Blue/green embossed cloth covers; title in gilt on spine. Scattered light foxing. Owner's name in ink at front and back pastedowns. Overall, very good.
