Danny Wallace got everything he thought he wanted.
The song. The record deal. The stage lights. The chance to leave White Oak Hollow behind and become the country music star he always believed he could be.
But some dreams come with a cost, and Danny’s was paid for with someone else’s truth.
After stealing the song that should have belonged to his wife, Shelby, Danny rides the success of “Highway Prayer” into a world of tour buses, sold-out crowds, cheap applause, and darker temptations. What began as ambition becomes betrayal. What began as one lie becomes a life he can no longer recognize.
Back home in White Oak Hollow, Shelby is left to carry the weight of his choices while trying to rebuild a life from the wreckage Danny left behind. As the town watches, judges, remembers, and whispers, the past refuses to stay buried. Old wounds reopen. New voices rise. And somewhere in the shadows of the mountains, the legend of Jimmy “Half Pint” Carter still waits, reminding Danny that some debts do not disappear just because a man outruns them.
The Broken Compass is the second book in the 3 Chords and a Lie trilogy, a gritty Appalachian story of music, marriage, guilt, fame, betrayal, and the dangerous road between redemption and ruin.
For readers who love emotionally driven Southern fiction, country music storytelling, flawed characters, and small towns where every secret has a long memory, The Broken Compass asks one hard question:
What good is a man’s dream if he loses himself chasing it?
