Descripción
Multiple editions and sections bound together in one volume; black half calf with grey marbled paper boards; gilt lettering on spine; rubbed a bit with bumped corners. Inscription dated 1859 on prelim. Starts with 'The Bristol Channel pilot; containing sailing directions from the Downs to Liverpool, including the Bristol Channel; and the coasts of Ireland, from Lough Carlingford to Galway Bay.' Title page also mentions the coasts and harbours of France, but can't find this within the book, so probably was removed when this collection was bound. From this title page, dated 1854: [(i)-x]; (1)-82, 219-287. The section including pp 83-218 was not included when the book was bound, probably because they seem to reference directions that were updated in later editions, which instead are included in the book as follows: a subsequent title page dated 1856 reads 'Sailing directions for the Bristol Channel, Milford Haven &c. containing a maritime description of the coasts of England and Wales, from Padstow Harbour to King Road and up the Severn, and from thence to Milford Haven, &c. together with the various islands, rocks, shoals, lighthouses, leading-marks, buoys, anchorages, depths of water, etc., included in that navigation': [(i)-iv]; (1)-51. Following that, a new section of text lacking any title page, but including from Milford Haven to the Bristol Channel, from St. David's Head to Liverpool, from Formby Point to Port Patrick, including the Isle of Man, the West Coast of Scotland, from Carnsore Point to Dublin Bay, from Dublin Bay to Lough Carlingford, Strangford, Belfast, and Rathlin Island, from Lough Carlingford to Rathlin Island, and the North Coast of Ireland: 41-151. Following that is a title page dated 1858 for 'Sailing directions for the South, West, & North Coasts of Ireland; from Carnsore Point to Rathlin Island: [(i)-iv]; (1)-75. Finally, another section without a title page, paginated 9-67, which seem to focus around the coasts and islands of Scotland. N° de ref. del artículo BOOKS272098I
