Print on Demand. This book delves into the fascinating world of thoroughbred horse breeding, offering a unique and insightful approach to understanding bloodlines and their impact on racing success. Set against the backdrop of the rich history of English racing, the author introduces a revolutionary "Figure System" that assigns numerical values to prominent female lines based on their historical performance in prestigious classic races like the Derby, Oaks, and Leger. By tracing these female lines and their corresponding figures, breeders can gain a deeper appreciation for the vital role that maternal ancestry plays in shaping the racing potential of their horses. The book explores the concept of "running families" and "sire families," highlighting the distinct characteristics and strengths of each lineage. The author emphasizes the importance of strategically combining these bloodlines to achieve optimal results, drawing upon examples of legendary breeders and their successful practices. With its emphasis on historical data and meticulous pedigree analysis, this book provides breeders with a practical and insightful framework for making informed decisions about mating and selecting thoroughbred horses. By understanding the intricate interplay of genetics and performance, breeders can unlock the secrets to producing exceptional racehorses capable of leaving their mark on the turf. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

IN presenting the late Mr. Bruce Lowe's book to the public, I am much afraid that I have by no means done him justice. The difficulty of checking an immense mass of pedigrees - English, Australian, and American - is in itself a very serious one to any but an idle man; but the further and more important trouble has been that Mr. Bruce Lowe left a very large portion of his work unrevised, and inaccuracies here and there which he no doubt would have detected, had he lived, could not be corrected without also some attempt to assume how far such correction would have altered the tenor of his argument.
The most important of these inaccuracies I have thought it best to leave standing. This occurs in the pedigree of Ormonde, for it seems better that the reader should know what was in Mr. Bruce Lowe's mind when he wrote about the breeding of that horse.
