Hardcover. Engineering has been at the heart of Rice University since it broke ground more than a century ago. Throughout the decades, Rice engineers have emerged as leaders who shape society both locally and globally. This commemorative volume marks the 50th anniversary of the George R. Brown School of Engineering and Computing at Rice University. This book is more than a history of milestonesit represents a common sentiment that all Rice alumni, faculty and students share: that engineering and computing can and should contribute to the betterment of humanity. Combining archival photography, original essays, and personal reflections, it traces the school's growth from its dedication in 1975 to its current role as a leader in engineering and computing education and research. Themes include advances in energy and sustainability, health, the environment, and computing; the impact of faculty, students, and alumni on Houston and the world; and the culture of innovation and collaboration that defines the school. Designed as a coffee table book, it offers a richly visual record of history, achievements, and community.
