In October 1962, as the Cuban Missile Crisis brought the world to the edge of nuclear war, a Methodist pastor in Orange, California sat down at a typewriter and preached four sermons on the Book of Revelation. His name was Richard V. Kendall. His congregation had spent the previous week wondering whether atomic war was hours away. These are those sermons.

Found sixty years later in the belongings of Donna Hood — tucked among her bibles after her passing in 2024 — the manuscript arrived in the hands of her grandson with three staples, yellow cover sheets, and no explanation. It is presented here exactly as Pastor Kendall wrote it, without addition or interpretation.

The Book of Revelation: A Series of Sermons covers the full sweep of John's Apocalypse — the nature of apocalyptic writing, the letters to the seven churches, the meaning of the number 666, Armageddon, and the New Jerusalem — with the theological depth and pastoral directness of a man writing for people who needed steadying, not speculating.

This edition includes a historical timeline placing each sermon in the days of the Cuban Missile Crisis, a glossary of period references, a scripture index, and a guide for personal or group reflection drawn entirely from Kendall's own text.

A voice from 1962 that sounds like it was written for right now.
