The Second Edition of Blueprints Cardiology covers the essentials that students need to know on cardiology and internal medicine rotations and while preparing for the USMLE. The thoroughly updated Second Edition features coverage of the most common conditions encountered on the wards. This edition includes a new chapter on pre-operative evaluation of the cardiac patient, plus two new appendices with common cardiac drugs and sample ECGs. The revised and expanded Q&A section presents 75 board-format questions with detailed answer explanations. Evidence-based resources are also included in this edition.

Jaspal Singh Ahluwalia, 3rd year student, Ohio State University "I like the Key Points sections the best. They always pull out the most important 3 or 4 points and present them again, in case the student missed them. This is essential for wards reading." Larissa Lee, 4th year student, Harvard Medical School "I found that the Q A section is right on target for Step 2 prep. The questions are the appropriate length and the appropriate level. These questions were much better than Qbank, which I just used before taking Step 2. The answer sets were also terrific and extraordinarily useful for reinforcing the material learned in the book as well as prep for Step 2 or a medicine shelf exam." "I always find the questions at the end of the Blueprints series the most valuable portion of the book, because they reinforce what you have learned over the clerkship, prepare you for the shelf exams, and can be used again for Step 2." "This book does a great job reinforcing concepts that are learned early in medical school, and I think it takes the next step for learning what is important to know in a clinical setting as a third and fourth year." "Strengths of the book, include concise language and brevity (good for rapid reading during clerkships), and easy to digest figures and tables. I think this makes the book appropriate for clerkships, electives and USMLE review." Sarah Davis, 4th year student, Drexel University College of Medicine "One of the biggest strengths of this book is the breakdown of each chapter. I really like the presentation of etiology, clinical manifestations, differential diagnosis, diagnostic evaluation, and treatment." "The overall strength of the Blueprints texts is the simplistic and basic style that the books have. I found using Blueprints really gave me a good solid foundation during my third year that I was able to build upon later. The material covered by Blueprints is also consistent with what is seen on board and shelf exams." "Overall I think this book is excellent, and I would recommend it to someone on a cardiology rotation as well as on an internal medicine rotation. I would have found this helpful on my medicine rotation 3rd year." "I am thrilled to finally see a review book that adequately covers the basics of diagnostic modalities and when to implement them. This is tested over and over again on shelf and board exams, and I don't feel it is stressed enough in review texts." Amir A. Ghaferi, 4th year student, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine "I would highly recommend this book to any student who is doing a cardiology rotation, no matter how much they were able to master the material during their first and second years of medical school. It is an essential companion for any student completing a cardiology rotation. Furthermore, the concepts permeate every facet of medicine. Therefore, it would be a valuable book to keep around for every rotation. The heart is central to human physiology and patient management nearly always involves a solid understanding of cardiology." Simin Bahrami, 4th year student, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA "These chapters provide an excellent introduction to the topics they cover. The use of imaging such echos, chest x-rays, and CT scans make the chapters more interesting and help in understanding what will be encountered on the wards. The management and treatment sections are generally very strong. They really help lay out all the options and when they are appropriate for each disease." "These chapters are well-written and provide a good basic introduction to their topics. I would recommend this book to third year and especially fourth year students. Students on internal medicine rotations would definitely benefit from this book if they use it as a quick reference." Vivian Yu, MD, Resident, University of Minnesota - Minneapolis "I read the original edition cover to cover during my cardiology rotation as a med student, and definitely would recommend this book to others on cardiology or internal medicine."
