Paperback. Blood, Concrete & Roses by D. R. Saenz Six siblings. No parents. No grandparents. Just each other - and the South Bronx streets that raised them. Marcus, Elena, Damon, Trey, Josie, and Rafi Vega grew up in a three-bedroom apartment on Prospect Avenue, making rules out of thin air and promises they intended to keep. They kept them. Years later, three of them are nurses holding strangers' hands through the worst moments of their lives. One is a city councilman fighting for the neighborhood that built him. One is a race car mechanic whose hands speak a language engines understand. And one is the youngest - the one who sees everything. They have careers. They have love. They have each other. They are from the hood. That never changed. When civil engineer Gabriel Reyes walks into Elena's cardiac unit with a blood pressure that could kill him and no one to call - everything shifts. He carries a folder full of buried truths about a bridge, a corrupt development deal, and a family history tangled with the Vegas' own. What begins as a nurse and her patient becomes something neither of them planned for: a love story forged in concrete and complications. But the secrets don't stop there. A name surfaces on a hospital form that unravels twenty-two years of grief. Old networks tied to dangerous men reach into the present. And the six Vegas - nurses, a councilman, a mechanic, all of them hood-born and hood-loyal - must face the truth about who their father really was, what their family's past actually cost, and what it means to love people who hurt you and stay anyway. They are from the hood. That never changed.
When civil engineer Gabriel Reyes walks into Elena's cardiac unit with a blood pressure that could kill him and no one to call — everything shifts.
