Whitman (#5052), 1941, Racine, Wisconsin. Hard Cover. Book Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: None. No statement of what edition this is and no printing history stated. 10-1/2" tall, 7-1/4" wide, 1-1/4" thick; all pages unnumbered (a guesstimate--about 200 pages). One-piece yellow paper-covered boards decorated with a boy and a girl holding an open book with the five stories in this book listed on the front of their book and on the rear cover, a cat gazing at three butterflies; end pages decorated in tan and pale green with 2-1/2" diamond squares, each containing a child s toy (puppy, teddy bear, toy giraffe, etc.); fore edge is trimmed. The book is square, reasonably clean, all four corners are bumped and worn, with the boars showing through the paper; edges have no dings but do have a moderate amount of wear but with no boards showing; head and heel of the spine are creased, with small chips at the heel and a 1/2" tear at both spine ends; spine also has a vertical crease. Except for an inked name/address on the printed book plate, the interior is free of writing, stray marks, stains and paper damage of any sort; paper is moderately toned but not brittle. Rear hinge is quite strong and not damaged; front hinge is a bit loose but the paper covering it is not torn and the hinge is holding very well. Condition of book consistent with being read and enjoyed but not abused. No other discernible or objectionable faults on book or jacket such as marks or writing within, stains, tears, chips, or other damage that would diminish its appearance.
