Paperback. Demigod series - Book 6: BetrayalAfter defeating the Pastor, Jason has no option but to recuperate and regain his health. While recovering he is confronted with the unanticipated consequences of having used his power on others when healing them. Though his interventions were lifesaving he is nevertheless conflicted by guilt at the unintended legacy his aid leaves behind when healing. With his power continuing to grow and determined to correct past mistakes, Jason initiates multiple schemes to put things right. Further use of his power when he should be maintaining a low profile attracts even greater attention he has worked hard to avoid. The circumstantial evidence pointing to his involvement in past crimes builds to the point where it is hard to continue claiming his innocence. Frustrated and angry at the growing difficulties this brings to his relationship with Maria he takes the battle to some of those enemies pressing him hardest. An easy win, but the growing trail of evidence emboldens his enemies further and forces them into collaboration, hoping together they will succeed where in the past they have failed on their own. Leading the new coalition is a group of fundamentalist Christian fanatics in a shadow government agency with unlimited remit to ensure their success against enemies of the Church and the US State. They believe Jason is blessed with Heaven sent gifts he has elected to use against, rather than for, the Church. Without having to work within the restraints of the law, they have determined to bring Jason over to their cause or destroy him. The battle he has long prepared for inevitably draws closer. Combined as his enemies are and no longer confined to operating within the law there is no limit on the steps they will take to secure their goal. Without physical proof they resort to abduction, torture and extortion as tools in the drive to gain control of him and thereby his powers. In the final analysis the most lethal blow comes from someone close to him. Jason is in a battle of wits and willpower to save his life and regain his freedom. As the torture grows more extreme and the determination on either side to prevail becomes entrenched, it becomes a race for Jason to gain the upper hand before he dies in captivity at their hand. Meanwhile, his friends desperately search for him while staving off attempts to sequester his wealth. His friends are no less at risk than Jason and become powerful levers for his enemies to secure control of him and his abilities. When the chips are down, it becomes a case of all or nothing to save his own life and those he loves. The time for keeping a low profile has passed. It is time to release his full potential, terrified though he may be of what that is and the damage it will cause. This item is printed on demand.
