Paperback. "The Benedictines" offers a comprehensive and insightful look into the history, spirit, and daily life of the Order of Saint Benedict. Written by Dom Bruno Destree, this work explores the foundational principles of monasticism that have shaped Western civilization for centuries. The book delves into the Rule of Saint Benedict, emphasizing the core values of prayer, work, and stability that define the Benedictine vocation.Readers are guided through the spiritual traditions and the historical evolution of the order, from its origins in the early Middle Ages to its enduring presence in the modern world. Destree provides a unique perspective on the inner workings of the monastery, detailing the liturgical practices, the importance of communal living, and the profound influence the Benedictines have had on education, art, and theology. This work serves as both an educational resource for those interested in religious history and a source of inspiration for those seeking to understand the contemplative life.
