Liz is an ecologist by training and is the director of the Community Science Initiative at the Duke Marine Lab. She loves forests with tall trees. In middle school, Liz loved science class and going outside for recess.

Rory studied biology at Macalester College and got a master in Coastal Environmental Management at Duke. Her favorite animal is the American Woodcock (a very silly name for a bird). Middle school was not her favorite period of time, but it taught her a lot about the importance of good friendships and having people you can rely on.

Maggie painted the illustrations as a high school student in Carteret County (where the Duke Marine Lab is located). Her favorite animal is the humpback whale. Maggie spent most of her COVID-ed middle school experience escaping to the beach to swim in waves.
