Before the gods of Greece, before the giants of Norse legend, there were the ancient powers of the Basque people - one of Europe's oldest and most mysterious cultures.
In the mist-shrouded mountains of the Pyrenees, a rich mythology flourished for thousands of years. At its heart stands Mari, the supreme goddess of storms and earth, whose moods shaped the weather and whose wrath demanded respect. Beside her, the serpent-god Sugaar slithers through the darkness. In the forests prowls Basajaun, the great wild lord, guardian of nature and keeper of ancient secrets. From the depths of rivers rise the Lamiak, beautiful and dangerous. And everywhere, the fires of the Sorginak burn against the night.
Basque Mythology: Exploring the Gods, Goddesses, and Creatures of Ancient Tales unravels a pantheon long overlooked by the wider world - one that predates Christianity, survived the Inquisition, and still pulses through Basque culture today.
Whether you are a mythology enthusiast, a folklore scholar, or simply curious about the ancient beliefs of Europe's most enigmatic people, this book is your guide into a world of wonder, power, and legend.
