Acerca del autor: Daniel R. Levitt is the author of Ed Barrow (Nebraska, 2008) and coauthor, along with Mark Armour, of In Pursuit of Pennants: Baseball Operations from Deadball to Moneyball (Nebraska, 2015) and Paths to Glory: How Great Baseball Teams Got That Way (Potomac, 2004), winner of the Sporting News-SABR Baseball Research Award. He is also the author of numerous baseball articles and biographies.

Barrow, a native of Springfield, Illinois, began his relationship with baseball by selling concessions at minor league games in the 1890s; he later bought and sold minor league teams as served as president of the Atlantic League. He was ythe field manager of te Detroit Tigers in 1903-04, then became president of the Eastern League. He managed the Boston Red Sox 1918-20, winning the 1918 World Series and was the manager behind moving Babe Ruth permenently to the outfield.
