Descripción del artículo del vendedor

4-1/2 pp. pen and ink on 5 leaves of onionskin paper, rectos only, with original The New Yorker air mail envelope with censor's examination label. 4to. A lengthy letter, brimming with news from London during Liebling's stint as war correspondent for The New Yorker. The letter touches on many subjects, including work, eating and drinking, the United States' entry into the war, and some personal matters. Reading in part, "There's so much to stuff to write here that I feel like an operatic character . [called] Largo the Factotum. And since my disposition always is to go look at things instead of just going ahead and writing one at a time, I've really got damn little down on paper. I figure that the New Yorker could well use on U.S. Army in Europe (or collateral subject like German psychological warfare) Reporter at Large per week . So what do I do? I talk and drink. A fellow like me has to do an awful lot of dining and drinking with potentially useful people, generals, fellows from ministries and such, and I also have a lot of friends I like a lot. But if I drink *every* night (or even, say, 5 nights a week) I can't get any writing done. We've [the United States] got the guys flocking fast now, and I think it's going to be a hell of an Army . I figure I could be extremely useful in the G2, which is intelligence, French section. This is one war in which they seem to be using special abilities. I mean when they get a motor truck driver they don't waste months giving him bayonet drills. They let him drive a motor truck. I am *sure* we'll win now, and I'm sure equally sure the world would have been lost if we'd stayed out six months longer. I still believe in a long war." Liebling mentions other journalists covering the war, including Meyer Berger of the NY TImes ("has developed a habit of fainting suddenly, sometimes in the street"). Liebling closes with some talk of home and notes he hasn't heard from his wife Anna, "but [I] don't worry about it as much as I might have once." The recipient, Dr. Leo Stone, attended Dartmouth with Liebling in the early 1920s. He went to a distinguished career as a psychoanalyst, advocating an influential theory of therapy that allowed for a closer, more humane, patient-analyst relationship. Some edgewear and small closed tears 4-1/2 pp. pen and ink on 5 leaves of onionskin paper, rectos only, with original The New Yorker air mail envelope with censor?s examination label. 4to.…
