Paperback. Scot is a teenager when his cranium is cracked by a bat in a mass attack and he wakes up able to see and hear ghosts that remain earthbound. Many of these souls remain on Earth because they want justice against the murderers that killed them. They come to Scot seeking his help to achieve justice.Scot is haunted by a pretty, female, former FBI agent, named Sharon, who insists he help her catch her killer. Scot does so and they strike up a unique partnership. Sharon helps Scot cheat gambling at cards in casinos. In turn, Sharon spies on killers, terrorists and human traffickers and gives Scot her Intel. Scot cooperates with certain state and federal law enforcement agencies along with the military to achieve justice and rescues victims. Scot and Sharon get sucked through the wormhole to another world. That world is some sort of science project created by the little grey aliens that visit Earth in saucer ships. The alien species, known as Greys, have used DNA from Earth and other worlds to bioengineer all kinds of different life forms on a very primitive planet. Monsters and humanoids of all types inhabit the planet, and Scot finds himself constantly chased with Sharon trying to keep him one step ahead of the dangers. They manage to find their way back to Earth eventually, but they discover during the brief period they were gone decades have passed on Earth and the planet's population is being fed on by astral vampires, that only Scot and a rare few psychics can see. The characters in this book were first published as short stories in such well-known magazines as Horror Zine, Down in the Dirt, Churches, Children and Daddies, Freedom Fiction, Dark Harbor and Chiron Review.
Kropp's story moves with cinematic intensity, weaving hardboiled realism with ghostly suspense. Every page pulses with tension as Scot navigates a world where moral lines blur, and the dead are often more honest than the living. Through crime, corruption, and otherworldly encounters, the young psychic becomes both hunter and hunted-forced to confront not only humanity's darkest impulses but the haunting cost of his own gift.
"Homicide Crimes is about more than solving murders," says Kropp. "It's about redemption, purpose, and the power of justice-even when it comes from beyond the grave."
Fans of supernatural thrillers and gritty noir fiction will find Kropp's writing both visceral and thought-provoking. The story balances high-octane action with emotional depth, exploring how trauma, guilt, and survival shape the human spirit. In Scot, readers find a deeply complex protagonist-vulnerable yet unbreakable, lost yet determined to bring light into the shadows.
Homicide Crimes stands out as a powerful blend of paranormal mystery and crime fiction, creating a new kind of hero for readers who crave intensity and meaning in equal measure. With sharp dialogue, relentless pacing, and a chilling atmosphere, Tom Kropp crafts a story that grips the reader from the first page and never lets go. Part ghost story, part crime thriller, and entirely unforgettable, Homicide Crimes asks the ultimate question- what if justice doesn't end with death? Kropp's series continues with Mayhem and Poetic Violence.
