Around the World in 10 Years: The Book of Independence: Overlanding Southern Europe, Turkey, Syria, Jordan and Egypt

Pablo Rey (Buenos Aires) and Anna Callau (Barcelona) have been overlanding the world non stop since June 2000 on a 4WD van, even before the vanlife movement started. They mastered the art of solving problems (breakdowns and police harassment, for example) in far away places, while enjoying their nomadic lifestyle. They've been 3 years driving between Cairo and Cape Town, 7 years all around South America, and 7 more years going to every corner of Central and North America. They crossed the Southern Atlantic Ocean in a fishing vessel, descended an Amazon river in a 6 log wooden raft, and walked with a swiss knife between elephants in wild Africa. On the last two years they started to travel by foot (Pyrenees mountains coast to coast) and motorbike (Asia), with the smallest lugagge possible. Pablo has written three books, many articles to magazines like Overland Journal and Lonely Planet, and both are in the short list of the most respected latin overlanders. Pablo Rey was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He arrived in Madrid in 1992, when Spain was in the midst of another bad recession. In 1996 he moved to Barcelona and in 2000 he rented his mortgaged apartment and moved into a 4wd van with Anna Callau, his partner in adventures. The goal: to drive around the world through Southern Europe, the Middle East, Africa from north to south, America from south to north, and back to Barcelona via Vladivostok to Finisterre. He has written articles for Overland Journal and Lonely Planet Magazine and has published three books in Spanish about his overland trips. Pablo has won more than 20 awards as a creative advertising writer, is a former illegal immigrant, an antique bottle hunter in ghost towns and one of many Argentinians from Barcelona, or Spaniards from Buenos Aires, with a leg in many continents. Pablo and Anna still live on the road.
