Transboundary environmental management has been a steady research topic at different scales of analysis of multi environmental media (air

International maritime trade and marine resource management between countries is a current research area set in the Arctic with grant funding from the Belmont Forum/National Science Foundation. She has received research grants from the National Science Foundation, U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, Commission for Environmental Cooperation, Haynes Foundation and the Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation.

She is co-editor of the Arctic Human Development Report (2015); Arctic Social Indicators (2015); The New Arctic (2015); editor of The Polar Journal´s special issue on Polar Economics (2016); and coordinating lead author of the IPCC 5th assessment report´s Polar Regions chapter (2014).

She holds a PhD in economics from Northwestern University and is a Professor at the University of Southern Denmark, Department of Sociology, Environmental and Business Economics. She is Unit Lead on Fisheries for Polar Research and Policy Initiative (PRPI). She uses economic tools with interdisciplinary connections to ecology and history to generate insights into policies governing resource use and sustainable development, with a particular focus on invasive species. In conjunction with the other editors, she is currently investigating the impacts of the Red King and Snow Crab introductions in the Barents Sea and has run several workshops bringing together researchers across disciplines relevant to the Arctic with stakeholders, resource managers, and policy makers. She regularly contributes to international economics, natural science, and Arctic conferences and meetings as speaker and/or organizer, and publishes in both economics and interdisciplinary venues.

Recently, Niels and several colleagues formed a Nordic-based network of researchers interested in Arctic marine resource governance under climate change. In 2015, he was awarded the Fulbright Arctic Initiative grant, and he is currently engaged in examining 1) how the development of new technology and operations in resource-based industries interact, 2) the governance of Arctic marine resources and how to manage these resources under climate change. Before entering academia, he worked in the Greenland HomeRule Administration from 1987-1990. He earned his PhD in Economics from the University of Copenhagen in 1998.“Acerca de” puede pertenecer a otra edición de este título.
