Acerca del autor: Alex Alben has played a leadership role in companies that pioneered the field of digital media. Over the past 19 years, he has supervised product development and negotiated business deals for successful products and new ventures in the online space. He began his tech career working for Starwave Corp., launching ESPN.com and ABSNews.com, and spent six years at RealNetworks, where he worked on RealJukebox and the company’s Internet radio products. Alben’s career began as a researcher for Walter Cronkite at CBS News in New York during the 1980 Presidential election campaign and then for Mike Wallace at CBS Reports. He later went on to work as an entertainment lawyer for Orion Pictures and Warner Bros., specializing in rights acquisition and working on films starring Jodi Foster, Anjelica Huston, Kevin Kline, Robin Williams, Mel Gibson and Cher. A graduate of Stanford University and Stanford Law School, his work has centered on applying intellectual property law for traditional media products—movies, music and books-- to new products for digital distribution. Alex represented the high tech industry in national and global policy groups. In 2004, he ran for the U.S. Congress from Washington's 8th district. He is the author of two books: “Our Man in Mongoa,” a novel; and “Analog Days—How Technology Rewrote Our Future.” He lives in Seattle and writes a guest column on media, politics and technology for The Seattle Times.
