Paperback. "Among the Franciscan Tertiaries" explores the profound spiritual legacy of the Secular Franciscan Order, focusing on the lives and devotion of those who sought to follow the ideals of Saint Francis of Assisi while remaining in the world. Written by Nesta De Robeck, this insightful work provides a series of biographical sketches and historical reflections on the individuals-ranging from royalty to humble commoners-who formed the Third Order. These "tertiaries" balanced their daily responsibilities with a commitment to poverty, humility, and service, embodying the Franciscan spirit outside the walls of the traditional cloister. The book delves into the historical development of the movement, highlighting how the Franciscan vision transformed the lives of laypeople across Europe. De Robeck examines the enduring appeal of the Franciscan rule and the specific ways in which these men and women influenced the religious and social landscape of their time. By chronicling the diverse experiences of the tertiaries, the work offers a rich tapestry of Christian piety and a testament to the power of a simple, dedicated faith. It remains a valuable resource for readers interested in Franciscan history, medieval and Renaissance spirituality, and the history of lay religious movements. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
