Paperback. "The America's Cup: A Short Account of Its Origin and the Various Challenges Which Have Been Made for It Since 1870" is a definitive historical overview of the most famous trophy in international yachting. This work provides a detailed chronicle of the competition's beginnings, starting with the landmark 1851 race around the Isle of Wight, and follows the series of intense challenges that defined the sport through the late 19th and early 20th centuries.Nigel Lindsay explores the evolution of yacht design and the growing complexity of the rules governing these prestigious matches. The narrative highlights the technological leaps in ship construction and the immense personal and national pride at stake during each challenge. By documenting the key figures, the majestic vessels, and the tactical maneuvers on the water, the text captures the essence of a period when the "America's Cup" became a symbol of maritime supremacy. This account serves as an invaluable resource for understanding the foundations of modern competitive sailing. It emphasizes the dedication of the sailors and the visionary engineers who pushed the boundaries of what was possible at sea.
