Paperback. "Some American Humorists" offers a comprehensive exploration of the vibrant tradition of wit and satire that helped define the American literary landscape during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Compiled and analyzed by Napier Wilt, this collection examines the works of influential figures who shaped the nation's unique sense of humor, ranging from the dry regionalisms of the Old Southwest to the sophisticated irony of urban commentators. The volume serves as both an anthology and a critical study, highlighting how humorists used dialect, caricature, and social observation to reflect the changing realities of American life. By focusing on the stylistic innovations and cultural impact of these writers, the book provides valuable insight into the evolution of American prose and the enduring appeal of the comedic form. "Some American Humorists" is an essential resource for students of literature and history, as well as any reader interested in the origins of the American comedic voice and the masters of the genre who paved the way for modern satire. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
