Paperback. Alex never asked for magic. He just wanted a pencil that didn't break. When quiet, creative Alex stumbles into Bramble & Sons Art Supply, he walks out with a wooden pencil that hums in his hand and turns drawings into real things. The pencil doesn't like bragging. It doesn't like anger. It listens to hearts that try to do the right thing. With his best friend Jamal and a pocket-sized helper named Scribbles, Alex learns a handful of rules that keep the magic safe. Keep calm. Help first. Fix your mistakes. Then a rival at school, Dylan, decides he wants the power for himself. His harsh sketches crack loose into real-life beasts that claw, hiss, and tear at everything in their path.As the pranks and close calls grow into real danger, Alex has to protect his school, his family, and the shop that started it all. The final test comes when Mr. Bramble calls one stormy morning. The shop is broken, the back room is full of snarling drawings, and the city is one bad choice away from seven years of trouble. Only the ancient scroll in Alex's tin of tools can pull the wild lines back to nothing. It will work only for a heart that is honest and kind. The Magic Pencil is a fast, heartfelt adventure about courage, friendship, and knowing when to let go. It ends with a choice that will make readers smile through a lump in the throat as Alex returns the pencil for the next kid who needs it.Perfect for readers who enjoy: Magic that follows clear rules and real stakesFunny, loyal best friends and quick teamworkSchool scenes, near-misses, and clever problem solvingShort chapters that keep pages turningBittersweet, hopeful endingsWhat you will find inside: Clean, age-appropriate humor and suspenseClear consequences for choices and behaviorBrave but gentle action with no goreA kind mentor who guides and explainsA heartfelt goodbye that closes this story and hints at the nextAge and reading level: Ideal for ages 7 to 11. As the pranks and close calls grow into real danger, Alex has to protect his school, his family, and the shop that started it all. The final test comes when Mr. Bramble calls one stormy morning. The shop is broken, the back room is full of snarling drawings, and the city is one bad choice away from seven years of trouble.
