Descripción del artículo del vendedor

A newly re-edited, revised and enlarged edition. A complete set of three volumes published around 1890 - Vol I: South, Vol II: Midland, Vol III: North. Each volume has four tissue-guarded photogravure illustrations by Franz Hanfstaengl of Munich - all present and correct. ***Each of the volumes is beautifully bound in green half-leather over marbled paper-covered boards. Gilt titles on red paper blocks and decorative compartments with five raised bands to the spines (the title block of Vol III - North is slightly damaged with surface wear but is complete). All edges of text-block attractively colour-marbled. Front and rear endpapers also colour-marbled. Edges of boards rubbed and worn especially at the tops of the spines. Corners of boards rubbed and worn. All pages tightly bound. Interior pages clean, and without foxing. All illustrations present, as called for. Each volume has an ownership name written in fountain-pen ink on the first blank page, dated 1894. Spines to all three volumes tight. No cracking to the bindings whatsoever despite the fact that the paper is very heavy and high quality. ***205mm x 155 mm. 1726 pages in total. Vol I: 577 pages including Index, Vol II: 576 pages including Index, Vol III: 573 pages including Index. ***Illustrations as follows: Vol I South - Westminster Abbey, Gateway Hampton Court Palace, Herstmonceux Castle, Mount St. Michael; Vol II Midland - Windsor Castle, Hatfield House, Warwick Castle, Raglan Castle; Vol III North - Chatsworth, Fountains Abbey, Alnwick Castle, Pembroke Castle. ***'The reception accorded to the previous editions of this work has induced the Publishers, at considerable expense, to re-issue it in a more complete and popular form. The present edition has, therefore, been carefully re-edited and revised; the Counties have all been re-arranged, and grouped, as nearly as may be, into Southern, Midland and Northern divisions; and the work, while containing all necessary archaeological details, is particularly interesting in its historical, biographical and traditionary elements. With the addition of Photogravures prepared expressly for this work, the Publishers trust it will be found more useful and attractive than before. Bedford Street, Strand.' (Quote taken from the Publisher's Preface to Vol. I) ***A beautifully presented three volume set of 'Abbeys, Castles and Ancient Halls of England and Wales' in nice, collectable condition. Beautiful late Victorian bindings. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. ***PLEASE NOTE - this is a heavy three-volume set weighing 3 kg, and extra charges will be requested over and above our ABE default price for destinations outside of the UK.…
