The Art, Science, and Strategy of Longevity examines aging as a biological process, a scientific challenge, and a deeply human experience shaped by time, meaning, and choice.
The book is organized into four parts. It begins with a historical, philosophical, and scientific examination of why aging occurs, tracing how different cultures and disciplines have understood the passage of time, decline, adaptation, and longevity. From there, it turns to foundational domains that influence aging across the lifespan, including movement, nutrition, sleep, stress, emotional life, sexuality, and hormonal change, considering how each has been studied and interpreted within contemporary research.
Later sections address emerging areas of longevity investigation and innovation. These chapters situate topics such as cellular aging, metabolic regulation, pharmacologic research, and non-pharmacological optimization within a broader scientific and conceptual landscape, emphasizing evidence, uncertainty, and ongoing inquiry rather than prescription. The final part looks ahead to regenerative medicine, gene-based approaches, technology, and artificial intelligence, reflecting on how personalization and innovation may reshape how aging is examined and understood.
Throughout, the book emphasizes synthesis over instruction and inquiry over advocacy. It is written for readers interested in the science of aging and the larger questions it raises about human development, responsibility, and the long arc of life.

Ioulia Howard, MD, is a physician whose career spans cardiac diagnostics, medical technology innovation, and geriatric medicine. Early in her career, she practiced in the field of cardiac imaging and was part of a team that helped establish a company focused on advancing technologies for ophthalmologic surgery. She later stepped away from medicine to raise a family-an experience that deepened her interest in health, aging, and the human experience of wellness. More recently, she returned to her native country to pursue advanced certification in geriatric medicine, with a focus on promoting longevity and improving quality of life for older adults. During this time, she also authored How to Live Long and Well: The Most Important Factors Affecting Health and Life Expectancy.Dr. Howard now focuses on longevity consulting and intentional aging for older adults. Her international perspective, clinical experience, and thoughtful approach allow her to help others navigate aging with purpose and clarity.
Don Howard, MD, PhD, is an author, physician-scientist, and healthcare leader whose work bridges medicine, science, and philosophy. His career spans more than three decades across anatomic and molecular pathology, biotechnology, and executive leadership, with a longstanding interest in the deeper questions at the intersection of human life, meaning, and scientific inquiry. As founder and CEO of CellNetix Pathology and Laboratories-one of the largest private pathology groups in the United States-Dr. Howard led major initiatives in molecular oncology, precision diagnostics, and laboratory integration across health systems. His leadership helped modernize cancer diagnostics and advance programs that shaped the future of clinical pathology. He has also held academic and clinical roles, including Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Washington and Chief of Pathology at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle.Dr. Howard earned his medical degree from the Albany Medical College, his PhD in experimental pathology from the University of British Columbia, and completed his undergraduate studies in philosophy at Boston University, grounding his scientific work in a broad humanistic perspective. He has published extensively in the scientific and medical literature, and his writing reflects this dual background. He is the author of Before Being: A Metaphysical Inquiry into Nothingness, Becoming, and the Mystery of Being Human (2025), a rigorous yet accessible exploration of existence that has received strong critical attention. He is also the co-author, with Dr. Ioulia Howard, of The Art, Science, and Strategy of Longevity(2025), which integrates medical science, practical guidance, and philosophical reflection to help readers navigate aging and healthspan.
