As his narrative flings him from the Sonoran borderlands to an abusive Midwestern childhood and back again, he finds himself on different sides of the law, awed by hardscrabble desert life despite the controlling interests pitting him against it.

About the Author
Charles David Mitchell escaped from the Chicago rustbelt to live in the Sonoran Desert, which constantly educates him. Like the narrator, he has spent much of his career working with the intellectually disabled, the addicted, and those confined to jails and prisons.
