Total blindness had suddenly descended on her as she walked to her Christian spirituality class one morning. To make matters worse, her professor challenged the class, saying, "Why should we believe in God?"
Sarah Blake LaRose experienced a painful deconstruction of the faith she had clung to throughout her young life. But she chose to stay in the church and reconstruct her faith, even while she struggled with recurring loss of her limited sight due to complications of premature birth.
Sarah's story is filled with moments of grace, joy and humor as well as reflections on disability, relationships, self-advocacy, and faith. For people who have experienced feelings of self-doubt or faith challenges, her story will speak companionship. You will find you have things in common with her whether or not you have a disability.
Great for individual reading or group discussion.
Past the Gray Curtain is a multilayered memoir about growing up with a visual impairment due to premure birth and coping with complications that led to multiple eye surgeries including three cornea transplants.
