Jerry Libbin is here to tell you the story of the chambers of his heart-the precious kind in the form of life lessons that help promote longevity and fulfillment.
"He may have been a little stubborn about listening to his doctors and agreeing to a transplant of his heart followed by a kidney-in fact, two back-to-back-and I don't downplay how terrifying these surgeries are. However, Jerry's contributions, sense of community, creative strategies, and the love for his family dictated his immediate and ample cooperation with complex surgical and medical care and returned him to the flow of life." --Gervasio A. Lamas, MD
Jerome "Jerry" Libbin has been a prominent figure in the Miami Beach community for over four decades, contributing significantly to its civic and economic development. Born in Worcester, Massachusetts, Libbin relocated to Miami Beach in 1982, where he immersed himself in various leadership roles.
Libbin's early career included serving as the Executive Director of the Miami Beach Jewish Community Center for eight years. He also led the Normandy Shores Homeowner's Association and participated in the city's Budget Advisory Committee and Planning Board. His work on the Planning Board was instrumental in creating "Neighborhood Conservation Districts," empowering residents in zoning decisions.
In 2005, Libbin was elected to the Miami Beach City Commission, a position he held until 2013. During his tenure, he chaired the Sustainability Committee and was an active member of the Neighborhood Community Affairs and Land Use Committees. He also contributed to the Finance Committee as an alternate member. His initiatives focused on enhancing public education, promoting fiscal responsibility, and improving neighborhood infrastructure.
In 2010, while still serving as a city commissioner, Libbin was appointed President and CEO of the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce. In this role, he concentrated on fostering economic growth and job creation in the city. His leadership was pivotal in connecting local businesses and promoting Miami Beach as a global destination. He organized significant events, such as the first Veterans Parade and the inaugural Badass Women of the Year event, celebrating the city's diversity and community spirit.
Beyond his public service, Libbin is a licensed real estate agent with Douglas Elliman.
Libbin is married to Dr. Raquel Bild-Libbin, and together they have two children, Sari and Moshe. Chambers of the Heart is his debut book.
