Murder follows Myaisha even on a road trip out of North Carolina. While attending the Fiction Writers of America conference, Myaisha learns about the Platinum Pen award. She befriends a fellow author from Charleston who suspects the award process has become corrupt.
After discovering the Charlestonian’s dead body, Myaisha becomes homicide’s primary suspect. But between backbiting authors and dubious conference organizers, there are plenty of suspects. Myaisha must discover which writer turned murder from a metaphor into a reality.
Assisted by members of the Greensboro Women of Color Writing Group, Myaisha searches for clues. However, questioning the intelligentsia can be hazardous, and her best friend, Deniece, is strangely distracted. When the killer attempts to write a non-fiction obituary for Myaisha, she relies on the support of a dear friend. But this new sleuthing partner may have more in mind than assisting in an investigation. Their collaboration threatens Myaisha’s relationship with AJ.
There is more than one mystery to solve, and the conference ends in four days. Time is short, and Myaisha worries murder is easier—and safer—than fiction.
