Growing up in a lower-class bakery in the heart of Lumierna, the capital of the kingdom Isles of Wyvern, Stirling Bakere, a 19-year-old boy, refuses to accept the standards of the oppressive society. At the age of ten, every child is tattooed an insignia on their arm, assigning them their career and to divert, even in hobby, will land them at the gallows.
With his insignia barely healed, he stumbles upon a peculiar dragon in the mountains. Even though their first interaction results in scars across his insignia, Stirling grows a brotherly bond with the dragon Ignis. Dedicating his life to learning to fly, Stirling loses his connection to his family as he isolates himself in the mountains, he will be forced to hide in.
Amiria Rey, born and raised to take her father's spot as Field Marshal of the Winged Cavalry, struggles internally to be the person she is expected to be. Awkward and socially outcasted, Amiria stumbles upon Stirling Bakere committing high treason by riding a dragon. Internally, her heart fights against her training and she makes the first choice of her own accord. Becoming close friends with Stirling, Amiria starts to learn the world she grew up in isn't as perfect as she was taught to believe.
While Stirling is on the run, Amiria must choose what is more important to her, her best friend, or her loyalty and oath to the kingdom.
