NINETEEN YEARS OLD AND LOST IN INDIA FOR A WEEK
A Young Woman’s Journey to Rediscovering Faith
Everyone has a story, and this one is mine. In 1976, at the age of eighteen, my faith was severely challenged. I began to question my life’s purpose in Bible College and even my belief in God. That year, an adventure unfolded that led me to teach at a village school in Sitapur, India. With a last-minute change in my already dubious travel plans, I found myself on the journey alone. Then, after a harrowing week being lost between Pittsburgh, New York, Tehran, New Delhi, and Bilaspur, I discovered that I was never really alone.
I wrote this book for my children, my grandchildren, and the kids who, after hearing my story at camp, have asked to hold this book in their hands. I poured my heart into this project so they would know Jesus and how I found Him, even when I felt lost.
Over the last forty-five years, an abridged version of my mom’s first mission venture into India has been heard by thousands of people. Written from the detailed journal of a nineteen-year-old girl, never has her story been told in such a vivid and complete way. If you are feeling lost, alone, or fearful of what tomorrow may bring, my prayer is that this book will bring you hope! Faith-inspiring!
—Heather Booher, adoring daughter
