A canvas of topics related to the use analytics in fire administration. Study areas include the collection of data through research, basics in statistical analysis and the application of information in fire department decision making. It is intended for two audiences, both as a textbook for students studying fire administration at a baccalaureate and graduate level and as a guide for fire chiefs in managing their local departments.
The text is divided into four general areas of study. These include; research methods, statistical analysis, logic and decision-making, and finally resource deployment.
Fire service professors and instructors should note that the text covers the learning objectives comprising two FESHE courses: Applications in Fire Research and Analytic Approaches to Fire Protection.

Chief Walker holds numerous fire service certifications, and is a graduate of the Executive Fire Officer program through the National Fire Academy. He received his bachelor's degree from Western Illinois University and a master's degree in Management & Organization Behavior from Benedictine University.Chief Walker is the past director of Fire Studies Program at Western Illinois University. He continues to lecture in fire service management, ethics, and fire administration. Chief Walker is the author of the text Fire Service Ethics.
Dr. Karen L. Sears is former chair the Department of Psychology at Western Illinois University. She earned a Ph.D. in industrial-organizational psychology from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. She is the author of numerous research publications, specializing in the areas of workplace attitudes and antisocial behaviors in employment settings. As a faculty member at Western Illinois University, she teaches courses in fair employment law, gender and work, research methods, and statistical analysis.
