Panacea is a futuristic utopia halfway between somewhere and nowhere. It is a city of artificial intelligence and equally artificial humans. With nothing to do but optimize skincare routines and genetically engineer babies, most humans have taken to a life of vanity and drugs.
But not all. Some prefer more archaic forms of fulfillment. Like Religion or building model trains.
Zara is one of these primitives.
She is ugly by genetically modified standards, with frown lines, a flat chest, and one freckle too many. But that is not what fascinates the automaton, AL365. Unlike the rest of Panacea, she is sad. She can cry. And when AL sees her weeping, something odd happens.
Ones become zeros, zeros become ones, and suddenly, AL is in love.
Now AL has to figure out what humans have spent centuries arguing about: What is the soul? Is there a god? And why, exactly, do humans write so much poetry about birds?
Only Zara can help him answer these questions.
There is just one small problem.
Zara is going to die.
The Little AI That Could (but Shouldn't) is a quirky, irreverent science-fiction adventure about life, death, and authenticity in a hyper-synthetic world.
