What this book does not do
It does not end with a mother who softens, or a family that heals. There is no reconciliation scene. If you are looking for the immigrant-daughter novel where love finally wins and everyone is forgiven, this is not it. If you have been waiting for one that takes the break seriously — that lets a woman pay the real price for her own life, and does not quietly hand it back to her — start here.
