Its name, "Folly," also translates as "madness" in Italian, referring to the vivacity, fire and the frenzied way dancers twirled to the music. The structure consist of theme, variations and a coda. Many composers, including Liszt and Rachmaninov, have used La Folia's theme. Rachmaninov dedicated his variant to Fritz Kreisler, whose cadenza is included in this edition.
