Instead it has been piecemeal and adhoc and all too often sentimental nonsense best represented by the gas lighting slogan, "Defeate Hate With Love."

The author is the editor of two academic book exposing the racism of the neo-Confederate movement by two university presses. His writing was critical to bringing down Confederate monuments.
