She feels the hard, smooth, lump lodged inside her mouth; the feeding tube inserted down her throat. She can’t speak but she can still feel the needles, soft tubes, worming from her flesh. The radiant warmth spreads like a thermal blanket over her face and body. Coarse leathered straps restrain her elbows, wrists, thighs and ankles. Her tear trough moistens.
