You’re holding a mixed bag of poetry; short silly poems of only a few words; sentimental poems; raw poems about surviving trauma and poems about faith. These are messy. Several would be panned by critics or fail to get past the first round of any literary contest BUT they are honest, easy to understand and are a splatter painting of my life.
The book also charts my journey from passionately hating God/religion/the Bible to (without hearing a sermon or being influenced by a single Christian) deciding to live God’s way; asking him to forgive my sins and wanting to live with him at the centre of my life. The collection covers time before and after becoming a Christian, including days where I’ve failed miserably.
It describes days where my mental health is still a challenge and days when I think of random thoughts such as ‘What would I ask Ben Nevis?’ This might be the last bunch of poetry I ever publish or write…but since the age of fourteen I’ve tried ‘giving up poetry’ unsuccessfully…it still has a stubborn, relentless habit of catching up with you eventually.
I pray and hope you enjoy this. I hope you realise that others struggle too. Most importantly I hope you see that you matter to God.
