The young apprentice has done it again.
Even though his knowledge of magic has grown, his eagerness to perform it often causes him to rush and not follow instructions exactly as they’re written. His attempt to make the Magic Paintbrush, which temporarily paints the user’s thoughts into real objects, is no exception.
While gathering the necessary ingredients to make the paintbrush’s bristles, he is unable to reach the jar containing the hair from the Witch of the North (the Good Witch). So, taking another jar of witch hair that he can reach, he figures, “A witch is a witch, right? What’s the difference?” Unfortunately, the jar he takes contains the hair from the witch of the West, “the Wicked Witch.”
After making the brush, he decides to test it by making a stuffed toy monkey. To his amazement, the paintbrush works and the monkey becomes real. The lively monkey takes the Magic Paintbrush from the apprentice and starts to use it. However, the monkey’s playful smile soon becomes a wicked smile.
While the apprentice struggles with the monkey to retrieve the paintbrush, its magic traps them in a frightening place. The only way back home requires the powers of the Magic Paintbrush. Unfortunately, the mischievous monkey avoids giving it back by using the paintbrush’s magic to travel to unknown places.
Desperate, the apprentice chases the monkey, and with each new location comes a unique adventure. During the pursuit, the apprentice encounters a Himalayan yeti, a leprechaun, Merlin the wizard and other folklore characters.
Oh, and there’s one last thing. Why can’t the apprentice see himself in the mirror? Hmm …
