From montados to beautiful new (to us) beaches to delicious recipes, we've enjoyed learning so much and think you will, too. After all, that's what it's all about, isn't it?

What a world

Probably much like you, I've always been interested in individuals or even organizations that share a common purpose, to make the world a better place. And that comes in all shapes and sizes. Chef Aran Goldstein appeared on my radar when I was a guest on Good Morning Portugal! After taking a look at what he's doing in the Algarve, and more generally in Portugal, I knew I wanted you to know about him, too. His Food for Thought piece, opening the issue on page 7, is a master class in local and intentional eating. I'm glad we became friends, I can learn so much from him. And speaking of friends, Louise Ross, an extraordinary writer, podcaster, and all-around wonderful person, shares her coming-to-Portugal story on page 42, in Perspectives. It's just one of the 40 stories in her two terrific books from men and women just like us, interested in making a life change.

Then there are the montados. Natural ecosystems that sustain life. Not just of the forests and the trees but of all living things, including us. Our feature story, page 26, introduces you to Montado do Freixo do Meio, an Alentejo spread like none other. I can't wait to get my first CSA box! But there's farming in the city, too. NÃM Urban Mushroom Farm uses...wait for it...coffee grounds to grow mushrooms. 'Nough said, read all about them and their innovative young founder on page 21. And of course, we have all your favorites: makers, music (another great playlist this time), and recipes galore.
