IT’S BEEN A GOOD RUN isn’t a traditional autobiography. It doesn’t attempt to be one. Rather, IT’S BEEN A GOOD RUN is a compilation of nearly one hundred and fifty true short stories about Ron, his family, his friends, and his hobbies. Through these short stories, you’ll come to understand how a culture now lost in America shaped Ron’s youth and, consequently, his first 75 years of life. Many of the stories are humorous. Some of the stories are serious. All reflect the upbringing and value systems of small-town America in the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s.
IT’S BEEN A GOOD RUN makes no attempt to be “politically correct.” Rather the book is full of stories of another era: an era when America was free; an era when political correctness was unheard of and wouldn’t have been accepted anyway; an era when folks were expected to be responsible for themselves and to raise their children to be responsible adults too; and an era when folks earned what they had, didn’t whine for the government to give them things.
To appreciate this book, you’ll need a sense of humor and an understanding that Ron grew up in an America that doesn’t exist anymore.
