Sinopsis

This book is for the person who has an interest in Karl Barth but who might find reading the volumes of Church Dogmatics to be a perplexing task. It might be the obvious fact that is a lot of reading. It might be the difficult style. These two volumes can stand alone as an aide for a person to understand the teaching of Barth. It can also act as a guide as one reads the volumes one by one or even selectively reads volumes of interest. My first time took a little over one year of consistent reading. I read it as a pastor wanting to sort out my personal theology. I also read it from the perspective of spiritual formation, its application to church life, and its perspective on discipleship. I am open to hearing from any reader who thinks I may have not gotten Barth right. My primary goal is to understand him, while my secondary goal is to suggest other approaches to Christian teaching that might lead to a quite fresh look and feel to a theology that would remain true to the biblical witness and to a faithful reading of Christian teaching that would remain faithful to the various traditions that have developed in the history of the church. Volume 1 contains the prolegomena, the doctrine of God, and the doctrine of creation.
