Small town secrets may lay hidden for years but eventually like gas bubbling up from a murky pond, they rise to the surface. Becky was raised in the beautiful little town of Warren PA, where she had been brought from Denver, CO when she was six weeks old. Even before she knew what the word adopted meant, she knew she was adopted, a chosen child, her parents said. As she grew older, like many adoptees, she wanted to know more about who she was, where she came from and why she was given up. In various flights-of-fancy she decided that she was a twin of Black, Jewish, or Native American heritage and while her mother denied she was any of those, she also claimed to know nothing about Becky’s origins. Every attempt to pry information from her mother failed.
Easily accessible DNA searches had not yet been introduced. Then one day, in the midst of an ammonia-fumed permanent, the bubble broke loose and the truth began to rise. Becky would find out who she really was and have to make difficult decisions about what to do next. This is a story of joy and sorrow, of faith and of doubt, of openness and of dark secrets, all unfolding when the time was right.
