Sinopsis

I give you until the end of August, Timmins. Six months...if I do not see a significant improvement here, I shall remove you from this parish!”

Samuel Timmins has been vicar in the little English village of Quillington Parva for more years than he cares to remember. Now, at the age of fifty and still troubled by his unhappy childhood, he finds escape in reading the lurid romances of famous authoress, Blossom Madgwick, and indulging his appetite for food, whether it be the delicious meals cooked up by his housekeeper, Mrs Whibley, or the mouthwatering cakes served in the Fat Rascal tearooms. He has neglected his parish and now the church is empty, the bells are cracked and Bishop Archbold is not happy! He issues Timmins with an ultimatum and the hapless clergyman is left with no alternative but to throw himself into his work.
So begins a series of hilarious misadventures as he tries to reconnect with his parish; a Beetle Drive threatens to descend into chaos; he is pursued by the amorous opera singer, Evangeline Honeybell, reluctantly becomes guardian of an overly-affectionate and unruly dog, Poffley, and is sorely tested at the Summer Fete. And then there’s Lavinia Bellamy, Timmins’ former and only sweetheart, who reappears in his life. What is her secret, and can he win her back? When danger threatens, can he overcome the demons of the past and win the respect of his parishioners?
Set in rural England in 1930, this delightfully funny, warm and witty standalone is full of larger-than-life characters – an uplifting and engaging read.
