Sinopsis

In the year 2020 the world got sick… Schools were closed on March 20th in preparation for the country’s response to a virus called Corona which was a worldwide pandemic. On March 23rd 2020 the UK was given lockdown measures by the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson. Life changed very quickly for many and only certain jobs were allowed to keep going. The people in this country were told to: “Stay home, protect the NHS and save lives.”On 21st April my daughter, Joy Stock, age 10, from Dunstable, Bedfordshire started up something called: “Mr Hugley in lockdown”. She began taking photos of her giant teddy bear, called Mr Hugley, doing different antics every day on our front lawn. Joy wanted to make people smile during lockdown. With my help she set up a page on Facebook and Instagram to share the photos to others. Soon, Mr Hugley got quite a following! He had regular visitors each day as they went on their daily walks and people would drive past and take a look. After a few days Joy decided to raise money for her local hospital: the Luton and Dunstable Hospital. She set up a Just Giving page and set a target of £1000. She was interviewed by local and national radio stations and featured in the local newspaper. Within a few weeks her target was met but she decided to keep going and raise as much as she could. Mr Hugley would appear every day until lockdown was over!Mr Hugley got his name because he loves hugs and is very cuddly. Also, when Joy was younger, she would call a cuddle - a “huggle”! He has brought many smiles to people locally, nationally and even has fans around the world! He often shows his appreciation and thanks to people for the work they do and he reminds us to do the same.We hope you enjoy this book about him – featuring some photographs of his different activities during lockdown. It also tells a story about the virus and the way the world was challenged and changed. We hope it makes you smile and remember all the good things we learnt during this time. All the ideas are Joy’s but I have put it together for her.We will be donating a percentage of any profits of this book to the Luton & Dunstable Hospital Charity, that Joy chose, so we can continue to raise money for them. Thank you all for your support. If you would like to see more photos, do follow “Mr Hugley in Lockdown” on Facebook or Instagram.Stay safe,Suzi Stock (Joy’s mummy)
