This book is based on over 30 years of experience in many industries including, manufacturing, engineering, construction and fast moving consumer goods (FMCG). It aims to explain the principles of implementing health and safety requirements in readable and uncomplicated terms, using real life experiences as examples of how and how not to manage health and safety. It’s unlikely that anyone leaves school wanting a career in health and safety manager, most are thrown the cap in later years and told to wear it on a part time basis on top of normal work duties. It’s here that many struggle to carry out their role affectively or to gain any respect for the position held. Many go way over the top with implementing health and safety while others do the bare minimum. Hopefully this book will give some guidance and encouragement to these individuals, those new to health and safety and at the same time transfer a few additional management skills to those more experienced that have come to read this book. This book is easy to read, contains no complicated health and safety jargon, no in-depth references and no laborious chapters. It does however, contain useful information in plain English, understandable dialogue and sensible solutions - After all its “Health and Safety not Rocket Science.”
