I became a witch because it made me feel special. It didn’t matter that none of the girls at school liked me and none of the boys ever spoke to me, because I could do things they couldn’t, like casting illusions or making objects move with a wave of my wand. When a demon appeared in the middle of prom, I knew exactly what I had to do. Witches are demon hunters and I’m going to be the best demon hunter there ever was. All I need is ultimate power and a little bit of practice.
The Goddess gave me a Philosopher’s Stone, a limitless Source of mystical energy to power my spells, but she sealed it up until I’m ready, whatever that means. My brother Peter has a Stone that he can use whenever he wants but he’d rather just hang around with Daraxandriel, the succubus he rescued. I know a handful of spells that could be used to slay demons but they’re pretty basic. Peter knows all the spells created by Dr. Bellowes, who used to be the best demon hunter in the world before we killed him for being evil, but Peter’s not interested in being a warlock. Lady Harwood invited me to join the Council of Nine when I’m old enough. Peter is eighteen and could take a seat now if he wanted, which he doesn’t. It’s not fair.
Achieving ultimate power shouldn’t be this hard.
